Picking accuracy measures whether the right item, quantity, and destination reach the next step.

Picking accuracy measures whether the right item, quantity, and destination reach the next step. Define the unit of measurement and include the variants that cause real errors. A correct total quantity can still contain the wrong finish or handed component.

## Measure the handoff

- Define whether accuracy is measured by line, kit, order, or component.
- Check item identity, unit, quantity, and job destination.
- Record errors found downstream as well as before release.
- Separate list errors from execution errors.

## Worked example

An illustrative 50-line pick contains two incorrect lines, giving a 96% line accuracy rate. If both errors affect one critical installation kit, the operational impact may be larger than the percentage suggests. Review severity alongside frequency.

## Improve the cause

Use error patterns to adjust labels, separation, list clarity, or verification. Adding a second count will not fix a wrong item specification.

## How Millbase can help your shop

### Connect material records to the cabinet job

When a component shortage or material change affects a job, start with the recorded stock and the work it supports. [Millbase inventory](https://millbase.ca/#inventory) keeps quantities, material costs, receipts, stock lots, and usage history together. Use [project tracking](https://millbase.ca/#projects) to review the associated labour and material costs, then reconcile the physical material before making a new commitment.

Ask the [Millbase AI agent](https://millbase.ca/#how-it-works) a question grounded in your workspace records. For example: *“What inventory records do we have for this material, and what usage is recorded against this project?”* You can select a project or worker, ask follow-up questions, and request [supported reports and CSV exports](https://millbase.ca/#insights).

Use the answer to locate the relevant records and investigate the exception. A physical count, approved specification, or supplier confirmation still establishes facts that have not been recorded.

## Frequently asked questions

### Should corrected errors count?

Define whether the metric measures first-pass accuracy or final release quality. Both can be useful if kept separate.

### Can barcode scanning guarantee accuracy?

No. Incorrect labels, units, lists, or quantities can still cause errors. Test the whole transaction.
